Necessity
of Vital Groups and Praying for Spiritual Companions
What I enjoyed in the conference was about the necessity
of vital groups and spiritual companions. The brother shared that our first
vital group should consist of the Lord and us. Once we have established a vital
group with the Lord, we should pray to the Lord for a spiritual companion. If
we are consistent and genuine in our prayer, then the Lord will be faithful to
give us a spiritual companion. Though spiritual companions we are able to go on
in the Lord.
Alone we are as single lambs and the enemy is a devouring wolf preying on us.
As individuals we do not have the strength to go on in the Lord. The relentless
tide of the world and of sin will eventually wear us down. But when we have a
spiritual companion, we are able to press on together in a genuine bond of
love.
"But flee youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace
with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart." The second part of
this verse emphasizes the fact that we need to pursue the Lord with others. The
brother shared that without spiritual companions we will eventually fizzle out
of the church life.
We often feel that we can make it by ourselves as long as stay in constant
fellowship with the Lord. It is wonderful to be in constant, intimate
fellowship with the Lord yet at the same time there is a genuine need for each
one of us to have a spiritual companion. All the Lord wants us to do is ask in
prayer and He will answer this vital need. WE must remember that a spiritual
companion is someone we can go on in the Lord with. WE should not choose a
spiritual companion based upon our own personal preferences or relationship
with a brother or sister. We need to simply follow the Lord’s leading so that
we will be vital members pressing on in the Lord.
